MUTA to meet Governor

The Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) has planned to meet the Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

Its general secretary M. Nagarajan told reporters here on Tuesday that Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Vice-Chancellor K. Baskar’s appointment was done in a shoddy manner as he entered the race by submitting his application through former Chief Secretary Rama Mohana Rao, who had to demit office in a disgraced manner later. Besides investigating this issue, the Governor should order a thorough probe into the appointment of 27 faculty members made by Dr. Baskar in MSU as we charge that a few of them, who do not have prescribed qualification, had been appointed for obvious reasons,” he said adding that the authorities were “refusing” to answer queries raised in this connection under Right to Information Act.

He said the Governor, while receiving the memorandum from the MUTA representatives in April, had assured them that he would order a probe into the charges made against Dr. Baskar and the appointments he made. Since the Governor was yet to act, the MUTA would press this demand while meeting him shortly.

“The MUTA welcomes his revelation that corruption had pervaded into the appointment of Vice-Chancellors. Since he wants to weed out corruption in institutions for higher education, the MUTA would press this demand when we meet the Governor during his visit to the district,” he said.

MUTA’s president S. Subbaraju and treasurer C. Radhakrishnan were present.
