#MeToo: Actor-turned-MLA Mukesh accused of harassment

Actor and Kollam MLA M. Mukesh is the latest to be named for alleged sexual misconduct in connection with the #MeToo movement gaining momentum the country of late.

Casting director Tess Joseph on Tuesday tweeted the incident that allegedly took place nearly 20 years ago when she was attached to the team of Kodeesawaran, the regional version of Kaun Banega Crorepati. She alleged that Mr. Mukesh, the host of the show, repeatedly phoned her and even shifted her room next to his.

“I was the only woman in a crew of men. One night when the calls where (sic) never ending I stayed in my colleague room,” she wrote. Ms. Joseph alleged that the hotel they stayed favoured the star. She added it was her boss Derek O’Brien, currently a Trinamool Congress MP, who helped her when he was informed about the harassment. “My then boss @derekobrienmp spoke to me for an hour & got me out on the next flight,” she said.

Charge denied

While talking to news channels, Mr. Mukesh rubbished the allegation, adding that he does not remember any such incident or the woman.

Youth Congress and BJP workers took out protest marches and burnt the effigy of the lawmaker.
