BOSTON — Patrice Bergeron scored a hat trick, and Walpole, Mass., native Chris Wagner netted what proved to be the decisive goal to help the Bruins win their 2018-19 TD Garden opener over the Senators on Monday afternoon, 6-3.

Bergeron scored on the game's first shft, jamming home a loose puck linemate David Pastrnak took hard to the net after just 30 seconds. The lead was stretched to 2-0 at 17:12, when Bergeron connected during a power play off a Brad Marchand pass.

Wagner's goal, a tip-in of Charlie McAvoy's shot from the point, made it 3-1 at 7:08 of the second period. It was sandwiched between goals by Ryan Dzingel at 2:21 and 12:13.

Bergeron completed his hat trick 4:38 into the third period, when a pass he intended for Marchand deflected past goalie Mike Condon off Senators defenseman Cody Ceci. He set up Pastrnak for a goal later in the period; Pastrnak closed the scoring on an empty-net goal with 1:38 remaining

Tuukka Rask, making his first appearance since he was pulled from last Wednesday's season-opening, 7-0 loss after surrendering five goals on 19 shots, made 28 saves.
