The first enforcement unit in the State under the Safe Kerala Project of the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) will be implemented at Mattannur where the Kannur International Airport is located, Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran has said.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to the airport on Monday, Mr. Saseendran said the enforcement unit could handle road traffic congestion that was likely once the commercial operations start in the airport.
Electronic vehicles
He also said discussions would be held with airline companies on the use of electronic vehicles instead of normal vehicles, buses and cars for conveyance of airport staff.
The discussion would be held in Thiruvananthapjuram on October 10, he added.
The Minister also said that the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation would launch adequate bus services from the airport to main towns in the district.
The number of buses would be decided on the basis of the airline services and the number of passengers.
Kannur International Airport Ltd. Managing Director V. Thulasidas received the Minister at the airport. KIAL Chief Project Engineer-in-charge Shibu Kumar and Executive Director K.P. Jose were also present.
