THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM has collected around Rs 3.11 crore for the Abhimanyu martyr fund. The construction of Abhimanyu's house - the SFI youth leader who died after he was stabbed at Maharaja's College - on 10 cents at his hometown, Vattavada in Idukki, is nearing completion.

The collected amount includes Rs 71 lakh given by CPM's Idukki district committee and Rs 2.4 crore received from the Ernakulam district committee (a total of Rs 3,10,74,887), said party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The party will deposit Rs 10 lakh in Abhimanyu's sister's bank account and Rs 25 lakh in the joint account of his parents, he said.

Making use of the fund, the party will also establish Abhimanyu memorial students' centre in Ernakulam, which will impart training for competitive exams, with facilities like a modern library and dormitories. The fund will also be used for meeting the treatment expenses of Arjun who had suffered stab injuries along with Abhimanyu in early July.

The CPM state secretary, in his statement, also thanked everyone who contributed to the fund.
