NEW DELHI: After a day of choppy trading, the equity markets on Monday finished with gains, thus ending a 3-day losing streak.
The 30-share BSE
Sensex gained 97.39 points to close at 34,474.38 while the broader 50-share NSE
Nifty finished at 10,348.05, up 31.60 points.
The bourses were extremely volatile through the day, as Sensex plunged 150 points within the initial 15 minutes of trading, before surging in mid-day trade. However, the index once again nosedived, cracking below the 34,000-mark at a points of time, before recovering again.
Bank and auto stocks gained the most during the day while metal and
IT stocks took a hit.
The markets have been under immense pressure over the past couple of weeks owing to a host of global and domestic cues. Sensex had tanked more than 2,000 points in the last three trading sessions.
