Speaking after releasing the results, Srinivasa Rao said that the state government had earlier decided to do away with the varsity-level research entrance tests, considering the alleged manipulations in the research admission process on the part of a few state varsities. “We have gone ahead with the APRCET to conduct the research admissions in the best transparent manner. Due to the less pass percentage, the qualifying marks are reduced by 5 percent for all categories of students, i.e., now 45% qualifying marks for the open category and 40% for the reserved categories. There are more than 2,000 PhD and MPhils seats are available in all these varsities through this test,” said Srinivasa Rao.
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao said that Andhra University will forward the merit lists to the concerned universities and admissions process will be taken care by those institutions. “The research committees at the respective universities will conduct interviews for 20 marks. The final merit lists are announced based on the total marks in the APRCET (180 marks) and interview (20 marks),” said Prof Rao.
All the qualified candidates will be called for interviews by the concerned universities where the candidates are required to discuss their research interests/area through a presentation before the duly constituted research committee of the particular university.
