11-year-old drowns in Noyyal river

Tirupur: An 11-year-old boy, who bunked classes to learn swimming, drowned in the Noyyal river near Kangeyam here on Monday.
The deceased was identified as S Abijith, son of Saminathan, of Palayakottai. He was a Class VII student of Palayakottai government higher secondary school.

On Monday, he as usual left home for school. But after a few hours, his parents were alerted that Abijith had gone missing after he went to take bath in the Noyyal. “He bunked classes along with two other students and the trio went to Sengulam to learn how to swim,” a police officer said.

Abhijith, however, got trapped in the strong water current and drowned. His friends attempted to save him, but in vain. When alerted, Kangeyam firemen recovered his body after two hours of search operation. The body was sent to the Kangeyam government hospital for postmortem. tnn
