CHANDIGARH: A man allegedly tried to rape a morning walker at a park in Sector 36 in the early hours of Sunday.
The 28-year-old woman had gone to Fragrance Garden for a walk around 4.45 am. The woman said she was walking on the track when a person grabbed her from the rear and pulled her towards the bushes in the dark. Maintaining her calm and showing courage, the woman kicked the accused. As he lost his hold on her, she freed herself and screamed for help. Other walkers rushed to her aid, but the accused had fled by then. The woman reported the matter to police. Cops recorded her statement and registered a case under Section 376/511 (attempt to rape) against unknown person and started investigation.
Police are scanning CCTV footage of nearby houses and areas to get clues about the accused. Cops said the accused was in his thirties. Police are also digging records of call data records to match the location of phone active in the area at the time of the attack. Pawan Kumar, DSP, PRO, said the accused has been absconding and efforts are on to arrest him.
This was the second attack on a woman at a public place recently. On September 28, a woman working in a store in Elante Mall had alleged that she was walking towards basement parking when a man came from her rear and grabbed her and tried to molest her. The accused had also tried to gag her mouth. The accused had fled when she started screaming. More than a week has passed, but the police are yet to arrest the accused.

Panchkula had alleged that two car -borne miscreants molested her near housing board light point in full public view and fled towards Panchkula when she raised the alarm. On her statement, Manimajra police had registered an FIR against unidentified persons. No arrests have been made till now.
