NEW DELHI: Equity markets on Monday showed no signs of recovery in early trade as
Sensex and
Nifty lost to the tune of half a per cent each within the initial 15 minutes of trading.
30-share
BSE Sensex opened with a slender gain of about 40 points but started losing almost immediately. At 9.25 am, the index was down 127 points at 34,249.68. The broader 50-share NSE Nifty was testing yet another key mark, that of 10,250, after opening at 10,300-levels.
All the sectoral sub-indices were under pressure with
metal stocks losing the most.
In the global market, China’s stocks fell sharply on Monday despite Beijing’s weekend announcement that it will slash the level of cash that banks must hold as reserves, a sign of underlying investor anxiety over a heated Sino-US trade war.
