Delhi govt may move court over stubble burning

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Monday said they may be forced to take harsh steps, like approaching courts, if the state governments in the NCR do not take effective measures to mitigate stubble burning.

Delhi environment minister on Monday said that the government had noted several media reports that incidences of stubble burning in northern states had already begun. "This is likely to further worsen the ambient air quality of the capital in the coming days/weeks when the festive season gets underway and the atmosphere also gets cooler," said Imran Hussain.

Hussain said if effective steps were not taken, the Delhi government would have to knock the doors of the appropriate courts of law to seek intervention and directions against these states.
