  • Hotstar, Hooq confirm deal Gadgets 360 reported on
  • Films and Hooq Originals also part of the deal
  • Some announced titles aren't available yet on Hotstar

Hotstar and Hooq have officially announced a partnership that brings the latter’s Hollywood content to the former’s platform, including 6,000 hours of TV shows, movies and originals. Gadgets 360 had reported on this last week, noting that 16 series available on Hooq had been added to Hotstar. The announcement reveals the deal is broader in scope: films such as Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and Hooq Originals such as The Oath are also now on Hotstar.

In its announcement, Hooq also mentioned that the likes of Wonder Woman, Harry Potter, and Pulp Fiction would be added to Hotstar as well, though neither of those were available on Star India’s streaming service at the time of writing. We have reached out to both Hotstar and Hooq for clarification on the same and will update this story when we hear back. For what it's worth, Wonder Woman and the Harry Potter film series are already on Amazon Prime Video.

With this deal, Hotstar adds to its stable of licensed US content – HBO, Showtime, Fox, and Disney – with select entries from Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures among others. Since last week’s report, the slate of Hooq series on Hotstar has grown to 20 already. All the Hooq content will only be available on Hotstar’s subscription-based offering Hotstar Premium.

“Hotstar Premium’s English catalogue is unlike anything you’ll find on any other platform in the world – an aggregation of content from across studios and content producers, at a single destination,” Hotstar CEO Ajit Mohan said in a prepared statement. “This partnership with HOOQ, with its portfolio of curated blockbuster Hollywood content, seals the argument – for an English content fan, there is nowhere else to go.”

“We are so pleased to announce this collaboration with Hotstar that combines their reach with our offering as the ‘Home for Hollywood’ in India,” Hooq CEO Peter Bithos added. “With the appetite for Hollywood content in India growing at a furious pace, we are poised to offer the Indian customer easily accessible and a very affordable way to watch the best of Hollywood. This partnership with Hotstar underscores our commitment to satisfying the Indian market’s appetite for on-demand content.”
