KOLKATA: The indefinite fast by some of the Presidency University students entered its fifth day and crossed hundred hours on Saturday with two students taking ill.
"Mamun Badsha Khan and Atmajit Mukherjee have collapsed several times in the past couple of days but they have insisted they will continue to fast," said Ayan Chakraborti, a post graduate student from the Bengali department.
The government on Friday told Presidency University to complete the renovation of Building-I of the Eden
Hindu Hostel by November 15. The boarders have been demanding that they should be allowed to shift to one portion of the hostel which is near completion.
Close to 60 students have been on a sit-in outside VC Anuradha Lohia's office since August 3 after the authorities could not complete the renovation work in July as promised. They have turned the corridor of the administrative building into their hostel where they have been staying since August 3.
"We were forced to start the indefinite fast when authorities did not reciprocate to our request of resolving the issue through dialogue. The fast will continue till our demand that boarders be allowed inside the Eden Hindu Hostel is met," said Sayan Chakraborti, a student of the university.
