AHMEDABAD: Back home, they would have led their lives on city streets - engaging in dog fights and majority of time relying on leftovers or scavenging through the garbage. But on the streets of Hamburg in Germany, the trio of Raja, Rani and Leo are head-turners as a distinct breed.
They have a kennel and get regular check-ups, not to mention the canine food.
The dogs - rescued from Amraiwadi, Naranpura and Ghodasar - were adopted in February this year.
They are part of about 25 cats and dogs adopted by Marie Rossier, a Hamburg-based lawyer and her sister Diane from across the globe.
Harmesh Bhatt, founder of city-based Asha Foundation, said that nine stray dogs have been adopted in past four years from the city by the citizens of the US, Germany and New Zealand. Soon, one more dog is going abroad.
"We have started process for the first pedigreed dog - a Labrador - who has been adopted by a German national. The Lab is a retired police sniffer dog and is among the batch of canines we had received recently by the state police department," he said.
