Mumbai: Three African nationals and a taxi driver were arrested by Mata Ramabai Ambedkar (MRA) Marg Police and JJ Marg Police in possession of cocaine worth `16.60 lakh on Saturday morning. The accused, Zadi Elie, 28, Omen Keukwn Elijah Ifeanyi, 26, Moses Edest, 31, and taxi driver Mohammed Nasim Fakir, 35,were arrested from Mastan Adda at Ballard Pier estate. On a tip-off, a patrol team intercepted a taxi at 7.15 am, suspecting them of carrying drugs.
Police checked the taxi and found 332 gms of cocaine. Elie is a resident of Lagos and was in India on a business visa. Ifeanyi is a resident of Nigeria and was on a study visa. Edest too is a resident of Nigeria and was in India on a business visa. Sanjay Kamble, senior police inspector, MRA Marg, “Cocaine and four mobile phones were seized. Elie was in possession of 105 gms of cocaine, while Ifeianyi and Edesth had 110 gms and 117 gms of the drug.” The accused have been arrested for production, possession and sale of psychotropic substances (Sec 8c) and punishment for contravention in relation to manufactured drugs (Sec 21k) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
