GREATER NOIDA: A 28-year-old man died while as many as seven laborers suffered injuries after the scaffolding at an 18-storey under-construction building collapsed in sector 94 area of Noida.

According to the Police, Naushad, a native of Chauda village of Noida, died on spot after getting trapped in the iron pillars that collapsed on his tractor while working. While the others who got injured are Shadab, Ajay, Ashok, Vijaypal, Mahesh, Nisarul and two others.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at around 11am. "Around 9 people were on the structure, who were placing glasses and marbles on the outer structure of the building on different floors, when it collapsed suddenly after which all of them fell along with the pipes to the ground while another part of the structure fell on the Naushad and his tractor who was passing by from the building,” said Akash, an eyewitness of the incident.

Senior officials like circle officer and city magistrate had reached the spot with an Emergency Task Force which carried out the rescue operation. The injured were rushed to the district hospital in Noida.

Meanwhile, the construction company officials tried to convey a different version of the incident in which they told that the tractor had hit the structure at the bottom after which it collapsed on him.

“This is a sheer case of negligence; the construction company was slowly removing the safety pins from the scaffolding that tucks the iron pipes into wall of the structure for the marble and glass installing while many of the pipes were corroded that led to the collapse,” said Pawan Yadav, a mason who was working at the site for 15 days.

Shailendra Mishra, city magistrate told TOI that an FIR will soon be lodged against the construction company who are prima facie appearing to be responsible for the incident. “The deceased will be compensated under the provisions of Minimum Wages act,” Mishra added.
