Gurgaon: After a long wait for civic authorities and the developer to repair a key
road, residents of
Fresco in Nirvana Country decided to raise money to reconstruct the stretch that connects the condominium to South City II road.
Residents said neither Unitech nor MCG was ready to repair the road and they were left with no other option but to fund the reconstruction of the road themselves. “This road is in a very bad condition. We have so far pooled in around Rs 1 lakh and started the repair work on Saturday morning,” said Nilesh Tandon, RWA secretary of Fresco.
“First the potholes will be filled. On Sunday, the road will be reconstructed. In two days’ time, the road is likely to be ready,” he added. “The road is a 100-meter-long stretch and some 2,000 vehicles of residents use it daily. That is why its condition was worsening by the day,” said Ankur Vaid, another resident. “This road was originally under the jurisdiction of Unitech and Nirvana Country,” he added.
Residents said during the handover of area to Nirvana RWA by Unitech, a disputed arose between the two parties around three years ago. “The transfer took place during then deputy commissioner TL Satyaprakash’s time. As the dispute lingered, both Nirvana RWA and Unitech dithered over rebuilding of the road,” Tandon said.
This year’s monsoon rains rendered the road fully unfit for commute. “It’s a nightmare for commuters, particularly the aged and pregnant women,” said another resident.
Neither MCG nor Unitech officials could be contacted.
