Thiruvananthapuram: When works to clear rock was almost completed at Thampuranmukku near Kuzhivila, mayor V K Prasanth and officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had a discussion whether the remaining structure could be beautified as a sculpture. However, sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman who inspected the site recently said the rocks are unsuitable for carving. Moreover the sculptor feels that it would divert attention of motorists.
The over 15-feet-tall rock structure was razed as part of widening of the Kazhakkoottam-Karode national highway. NHAI plans to beautify the area by installing vertical gardens and art works in the model of Arteria, on the road side.

After NHAI and mayor discussed the proposal to beautify the portion, mayor and Kanayi conducted an inspection the other day.

Kanayi said that there was possibility of other methods of beautification, but he was not in favour as any such move, which would divert attention of the motorists. “I am not in favour of any art that would divert attention of the motorists. Imagine, a motorist passing through NH and suddenly changing focus on the art on the road side,” he said. tnn
