Man of the Match: Harsh Tyagi

Highlights

19:11(IST)

India's star performer on the day, Harsh Tyagi speaking in the post-match interview -

"It was quite helpful for the spinners. I was sticking to my basics and planning with the captain. It was enjoyable out there. Hats off to all our staff members and our coaches. With our video analyst we had a video that helped us on where to bowl. Always a great opportunity for the youngsters to play here, I would like to thank the ACC for organizing this tournament."

19:05(IST)

India's Yashasvi Jaiswal is declared the man of the tournament for his excellent batting performances through the tournament.

18:56(IST)

The target was always going to be high for Sri Lanka after they lost early wickets in the second innings. But after Mohit Jangra dismissed the skipper Nipun Dananjaya, it all went downhill for the Lankans.

18:53(IST)

The last batsman was Paranavithana, LBW off Siddharth Desai's bowling for 48 runs. There was only so much he could do all by himself beyond a point. India were dominant in the field, while batting, and while bowling. Deserved victory for the boys in blue.

18:50(IST)

OUT! That's it! India U19 are Asia Cup Champions!

18:47(IST)

What a spell it's been from Harsh Tyagi! He finishes with figures of 6-38 from his quota of ten overs, a fine performance. Sri Lanka are 158-9 at the end of 38 overs.

18:42(IST)

FOUR! Consecutive boundaries for Paranavithana. His powerful slog-sweep finds the fence through mid-wicket.

18:41(IST)

SIX! Paranavithana hits one over long on off Siddharth Desai's bowling to take the score to 152-9.

18:39(IST)

WICKET! Kelhara Senarathna is dismissed for just one run off five balls off - guess who? - Harsh Tyagi's bowling. He's caught in the deep, another Sri Lankan batsman falling prey to accelerating the run-rate.

18:36(IST)

SIX! Paranavithana has decided he's seen enough at the other end, and hits the ball over the fence off Siddharth Desai's bowling. This is the only way forward fro Sri Lanka at this point. The score is 141-8 at the end of 35 overs.

18:33(IST)

At the end of 34 overs, Sri Lanka are 135-8. Barring a miracle from Sri Lanka, India look like they'll go all the way here.

18:31(IST)

Yes he can! Dasun Mendis tries to heave the ball away but completely misses the trajectory of the ball as it goes crashing into his stumps. Tyagi has had a final to remember.

18:29(IST)

At the end of 33 overs, Sri Lanka are 132 for 7. Sandun Mendis and Navod Paranavithana are now at the crease. Harsh Tyagi has been brought back into the attack. Can he get a five wicket haul?

18:27(IST)

WICKET! Sri Lanka lose another wicket, seven down for 127 now as Nipun Malinga is dismissed without playing a single ball. He tries to take a quick double but the throw from the deep is perfect from Mohit Jangra, rattling the stumps.

18:22(IST)

WICKET! Siddharth Desai picks up the wicket of Dunith Vellalage, as he tries to accelerate but holds out to cover. Sri Lanka are 126-6.

18:17(IST)

The required rate at this point, at the end of the 31st over is over 9.5 runs per over. Sri Lanka are 121 for 5 as Mohit Jangra aims to keep things tight.

18:08(IST)

28 overs gone and the game is clearly tilted in favour of India at this point. The required run rate is high and Sri Lanka don't quite have the wickets in hand to accelerate but will have to. They are 115/5.

17:56(IST)

WICKET! Harsh strikes again! This lad is on fire. Sri Lanka have now lost half their side and still need 201 runs to win the game. That seems extremely unlikely at this point. They are 104/5 after 24 overs.

17:52(IST)

The scoring rate is gone down now, as is wont to do when wickets fall in a flurry. Sri Lanka need a stable partnership that can keep the run rate down and not let it go too high. The question remains whether it can be done. Sri Lanka are 98/4 after 23 overs.

17:40(IST)

OUT! When it rains it pours, goes the old saying... and that is seemingly coming true now. Fernando is gone and Harsh is once again the man doing the damage, this time trapping the batsman plumb. Sri Lanka are in a bit of trouble. They are 79/4 after 19.2 overs.

17:32(IST)

OUT! And there goes the third. The pressure of the run-rate is starting to tell. Harsh bowls a lovely ball that Kalana Perera tries to smash over the boundary ropes but he only top edges it and has to walk after the catch is taken. Sri Lanka are 69/3 after 17.2 overs.

17:26(IST)

WICKET! India have struck just when the partnership was looking dangerous. Pasindu looks to thump one for six but simply hits one up in the air and the catch is gleefully taken. Sri Lanka are 67/2 now after 16 overs.

17:19(IST)

India are trying hard to break this partnership but both batsman appear well settled at this point and are not seemingly keen to give away their wickets. India will need to come up with a Plan B as Plan A doesn't appear to be working for now. Sri Lanka are 62/1 after 15 overs and it is time for drinks!

17:09(IST)

Sri Lanka are putting together a fine little partnership here for the second wicket. It hasn't yielded a lot in terms of runs but the stability should help them for the time being. They are now 47/1 after 12 overs.

16:51(IST)

Sri Lanka have recovered from the loss of the early wicket but have yet to up their scoring rate to the level it should be at. That's good for India as they can get another wicket should the pressure continue to build. SL are 29/1 after 8 overs.

16:37(IST)

OUT! Devdutt strikes and removes Nipun Perera early. The ball was there for the hitting but Perera's shot simply finds the fielder on the edge of the 30-yard circle and that was all she wrote.

16:29(IST)

Sri Lanka continue to trudge along for now, although they are getting a few boundaries now thanks to some wayward bowling from India's pacers. The sooner India get a wicket or two the better it will be for them as the target for the Lankans remains formidable. They are 14/0 after 5 overs.

16:21(IST)

India have made a great start to the second innings. No wickets have been taken just yet but runs have been hard to come by for Sri Lanka. They are 2/0 after 3 overs and need to up the ante soon.

16:08(IST)

And the second innings is underway. Mohit Jangra will open the bowling for India. Can Sri Lanka chase down what is a formidable target? We shall find out soon enough.
