Browns beat the Ravens in overtime

The Browns finally made a kick.

And they won a second game in a season, which seems more rare.

The Browns beat the Ravens 12-9 in overtime, thanks to Greg Joseph‘s 37-yard field goal as time expired on the extra session.

Joseph, who isn’t their first kicker of the year, missed a 55-yarder earlier which could have been the difference. But on a day when points were hard to come by, his was plenty for a team that moved to 2-2-1.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 342 yards and a touchdown, but the story was the way the Browns defense shackled the Ravens (3-2).

While Baltimore’s 410 yards of total offense looks like a lot, they didn’t reach the end zone and were just 4-of-16 on third downs for the day.

The Browns forced a pair of turnovers, and cornerback Denzel Ward had a blocked field goal along the way to help keep this one close. Their five games this season have been decided by a combined 13 points.

It was the Browns first win on a Sunday since 2015, and while it was overly dramatic, they’ve already doubled their win total for the last two seasons.

  1. Every year you hear Ravens fans boast about how great their def is…It is like when you’re a kid playing basketball and you can’t score points, so adults call you a defensive specialist so you don’t get discouraged…Bal also feels like they have won the Super Bowl every time they beat Pitt. The problem is they can’t beat Dalton who has won 8 out of last 10 meetings. Last year a HORRIBLE Bengals team knocked them out of the playoffs. Browns have nothing to fear tomorrow but themselves!
    UPDATE: Ravens lose..lol

  2. Haha even mike was on here the other day trying to say how great the Ravens d was and how they were going to jam mayfield up because he’s a rookie. Their d hasn’t been good since the early 2ks and News flash you just lost the Browns!

  3. Where are the naysayers that thought the Browns made a mistake picking Denzel Ward over Bradley Chubb in the draft? It now looks like a great pick, the kid can ball.

  4. Thankfully The Browns have a good punter! At least placekicker got a touch of redemption! And the Browns were abused or better yet neglected by the officials too. But a win is a win. And the defense came through.

  5. Baker mayfield has this team even !!! You think two yard tom would have cleveland even ???? Nope

  6. I remember thinking taking Mayfield was a mistake. I also remember wondering why they would take Ward so high. A lot of the talking heads on the networks covering the draft scratched their heads about Ward too. It looks like they made two good picks because Ward has been pretty good and Mayfield has given that offense some energy they haven’t had since Moses was a baby.

    Winning a close game like this, even if it was an ugly win, is a good step for this team. It’s fun to make jokes about the Browns but I think it’s good to see them have something to be optimistic about–especially the fans. Sure, they threw batteries and dog bones at John Elway and others but those fans fill the stadium in weather you wouldn’t walk your dog in. If they can stop wasting draft picks like they have in previous years they may be able to get something going. Mayfield looks like he’s the QB they’ve needed.

  7. Congrats to the Browns, they definitely deserved to win that game. Their defense is tough and Mayfield is legit. The North is looking four-teams deep at this point.

    Ravens and Refs lose in OT!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Right – Browns win in spite of late no-call of block in the back and what was that no-call on Landry getting jacked. OK, not pass interference if ball is uncatchable, but easy call for illegal contact was not made either. Great to see the Browns win in spite of adversity.
  9. Ravens might do better if they didn’t keep forcing Jackson into the game. Every D knows it’s going to be a running play when he lines up behind the center.
    Forcing the issue just so Ozzie can justify taking him in the first round the flow of the series.
  10. Everybody laughed before the season when Garrett talked about their defense and how good it would be. That defense is scary. Outside of their opponent today and the Bears, that’s the best defensive unit in football for my money. Ward has justified that early pick that everyone scoffed at too. he has had an immediate impact on their secondary.
  11. I root for the Steelers.
    I live an hour outside Baltimore.
    I had to put up with a lot of harassment from Raven’s fans after the tie game between Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
    I can’t rub it in too much because the Ravens beat the Steelers head-to-head.
    Oh, who am I kidding, it’s going to be a fun week of giving back what I got for the last week!
  12. Perhaps keeping Hue is acknowledgment by front office that they tied his hands with mediocre at best talent until now.
  13. What’s interesting is that it’s the last 2 years haul of draft picks that has been the difference. Baker, Garret, Ward, Ogbah, Ogunjobi, Avery, Njoku… For all the musing about how bad Cleveland’s drafting has been they’ve had 2 VERY productive drafts. They have a lot of young talent!
  14. A kick here, a correct replay there, the Browns would/should be 5-0. Oh yeah, and all of those experts who wondered why Ward was taken instead of Bradley Chubb. Chubb, a LB has 7 tackles and 1 solo sack, Ward has 20 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 2 INTs and a FG block.
  15. The Ravens sucks! Flaaco let a rookie beat him. I have been saying it for years, they should get rid of Flaaco. But all Baltimoreans know that will never happen.
    Thanks for the super bowl win!
  17. Beating the Ravens is not much of an effort since the Ravens are a horrible football team. The Cleveland football team would not have been the Baltimore Murdering Black birds had they started Typhoid Taylor.
