LUCKNOW:: A robot to clean sewage without any human intervention might be the answer to the problem of sanitary workers dying while cleaning drains, thanks to the prototype developed by Chennai's Nama Kartik.
"A number of sanitary workers die when exposed to harmful gases in drains while cleaning sewage. I have developed a robot to track and clean sewage in order to save lives," said the engineering student who is in city to showcase his model during the India International Science Festival (IISF) on Saturday.

Scores of engineering students presented prototypes of models based on themes like environment conservation, effective waste management and saving non-renewable energy sources during the IISF's engineering model exhibition organised at GD Goenka Public school.
A special garbage disposal management with a robot driven vehicle to collect garbage from houses, developed by a group of students from West Bengal, was attracting many visitors. "I have developed a technology with which a robot can collect garbage from people's homes on days when trash is not collected from localities," said Polytechnic student Pratiksha Pandey, one of the members of the group.
IISF's second day was marked by students presenting scientific innovations, brainstorming session with the experts and using creativity to disseminate scientific knowledge at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan.
In the morning session, the National Science Teachers' Congress addressed an audience about innovative ways of teaching the subject which can be implemented in schools across the country.
Speakers like head of department of elementary education of NCERT Anup Kumar Raj, director Indian Institute of Technology-(BHU) Pramod Kumar Jain and director of National Science Centre D Rama Sarma discussed effective teaching methodology on Day 2 of IISF.
The audience also got a chance to attend brainstorming session on climate change and environment wherein experts deliberated on ways to save the environment from the phenomenon.
The day ended with a musical performance by Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej.
