Man, 50, gets 15 years in jail for raping minor

CHENNAI: A mahila court on the Madras high court campus awarded 15 years imprisonment to a 50-year-old man for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2016, on Friday.
The judge found S Chandran, a resident of slum clearance board quarters in Kasimedu, guilty of sexually assaulting the minor. For charges under Section 6 of the Pocso Act, the judge sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and Rs 10,000 as fine. If he fails to pay the fine he shall have to serve another six months imprisonment for the sexual penetration charges, the order said. The court gave him another five year jail sentence and Rs 5,000 fine for charges slapped on him under section 8 of Pocso Act. If he failed to pay the fine, he shall have to stay in prison for another six months, the order read.

Police said Chandran sexually assaulted the girl at her home on October 1, 2016. She informed her parents about the incident and based on a complaint by the girl’s mother complaint, the Royapuram police registered a case and arrested Chandran.
