Thiruvananthapuram: The police under Neyyatinkara sub-division, led by DSP B Harikumar, recorded the arrest of two men in connection with two separate murder cases on Sunday.
The first arrest was in connection with a case of matricide and the other was related to the murder of live-in partner.

Incidentally, both crimes occurred under similar circumstances, during domestic disputes.

Manikantan alias Monu, 22, of Thozhukkal under Neyyatinkara police station limits was arrested for the alleged murder of his mother Sreelatha, 45. The alleged crime took place on Thursday. Manikantan, who is an accused in a few grave criminal cases such as attempt to murder and robbery, picked up a quarrel with his mother, demanding money to buy alcohol. In the melee, he ended up physically assaulting her, leading to her death.

The post-mortem examination on the body revealed the injuries sustained by the deceased. On interrogating, Manikantan admitted to the crime. His arrest was recorded at Neyyatinkara police station.

Manikantan is Sreelatha’s son in her first marriage. She has a daughter in her marriage with second husband Maniyan.

The police arrested Sujith alias Shamnad alias Kannan, 32, of Kaniyapuram, in connection with the alleged murder of his live-in partner Sujatha, 42, whose body was found in her rented house on Wednesday. Sujith was caught from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, Sujith murdered Sujatha during a quarrel on the night of September 29. The quarrel was related to suspected infidelity of the deceased. Sujatha, who was working as a cleaning staff at the railway station at Thampanoor, was in a relationship with the accused after getting divorce from her husband four years ago.

The police said that Sujatha belonged to the fourth generation of a family that migrated from Andhra Pradesh. They moved into the rented house near Vedivachamkovil only a month ago and hence neighbours knew very little about the couple.

Incidentally, two night patrolling policemen had intervened during one of the regular quarrels of the couple. Then, one of the them had even clicked a picture of Sujith, which helped the police to identify him and nab him. His arrest was recorded at Naruvammoodu police station.
