Red Button Public Robotic Spectrum (RBPRS), an intelligent robotic terminal to help the public to reach out to police and track crimes, will be installed at two places in Cherthala.
Officials said that RBPRS, developed by the Red Button Company, would be made operational at X Ray Junction and near KSRTC Bus Station in two weeks. The project is being implemented by the Cherthala municipality with the support of the police.
Each terminal costs ₹2 lakh and the cost will be borne by the Red Button Company.
The terminal is mounted with six infrared high definition cameras.
When someone presses the red button in the robotic spectrum the intelligent Robotic Terminal will automatically send the SOS alert displaying the exact location along with 360 degree multi level images captured of the location to the police control room and to the nearest geo fenced mobile police vehicle.
Further, a hotline telephone link will automatically open up and the person who presses the red button wants, if he desires, can talk to the police personnel at the control room.
“If someone wants to register a police complaint or pass on information about a crime or an accident, they just need to press the red button in the system. The user can speak with the control room for 90 seconds. Once a person presses the red button, the cameras in the terminal will capture images within 150 metres distance and send it to the control room. During night, it can take images up to 80 metres. The system will also send pictures taken 20 seconds prior to the pressing of the button,” said an official.
Help for women
Officials added any woman in crisis could press the red button without fear of disclosing their identity. Other than helping to contact the police, RBPRS will act as a surveillance system.
It has video recording facility with capacity to store data for several days.
