Pharma firm bus accident: Condition of two critical

PANCHKULA: A day after 30 people were injured after a collison betweeen a bus carrying 53 passengers and a truck near Madanwala village on Pinjore-Baddi highway, police said that condition of two of the injured passengers is critical. Both are admitted PGIMER, Chandigarh. No casualty was reported in the accident.

According to the police, the ill-fated bus carrying 53 odd passengers was heading towards Baddi on Friday morning when a truck approaching from opposite direction lost control and swayed to the wrong side of the road hitting the bus on conductor's side from front. The accident occurred near Madanwala village on Pinjore-Baddi road, said the police.

The impact was so hard that it ripped off the front portion of the bus and the truck skidded off road and overturned. The front portion of the truck also got ripped apart. All the passengers in the bus were employees of a pharma company and 20-25 were women amongst the 53 odd passengers travelling on the bus. All the injured were rushed to nearby private hospitals, civil hospital in Kalka and Panchkula. The driver of the bus along with four passengers and the driver of truck were referred to PGIMER Chandigarh with multiple injuries.

Pinjore police said that the local village residents told the police that the sound of the impact was heard for about 500 meters and people from nearby villages also rushed to the spot. Swaran Singh, a resident of Nawanhagar said that he was following the bus on his 2-wheeler and saw the speeding truck lost control and swayed before hitting the bus.

Gurcharan Singh, a resident of Madanwala village said, "We also rushed to the accident site and found many people suffered injuries and crying for help. We rushed them to nearby hospitals and to civil hospital in Kalka and Panchkula. Most of the passengers suffered minor injuries and were discharged after treatment at local private hospitals."

Pinjore police said that they have registered a case against the driver of the truck for rash and negligent driving. Pinjore police station house officer inspector Varinder Kumar said, "We have booked the driver of the truck Bhagat Singh following the statements of some of the passengers travelling in the bus. Critically injured were referred to PGI Chandigarh where the doctors have said that their condition is out of danger." The driver of the truck is yet to be arrested as he is under treatment at hospital, informed the police.
