14-year-old girl commits suicide

LUDHIANA: A 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Vijay Nagar on Tibba Road on Friday.

Janu, 14, a school drop-out, was alone at home when she took the extreme step.

Tibba police station assistant sub-inspector Janakraj said, “Janu’s father, Haidar Ali, along with her mother, had gone to new court complex and her younger brother, too, was not at home in the afternoon.”

Joga Singh, Janu’s grandfather who is a resident of Subhash Nagar, said, “I went to Vijay Nagar to bring Janu to my house when I learned that she was alone. The door was locked from inside. When she did not respond to my repeated knocks, I broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.”

“Ali, a hair dresser, told us that Janu was depressed for the past few days. We are awaiting her post-mortem report,” the ASI added.
