A cargo van driver was allegedly stabbed to death by a man after his vehicle accidentally brushed past the latter’s pet dog in Dwarka’s Uttam Nagar on Saturday.
The deceased’s brother was also injured in the incident, the police said.
They received a PCR call at 12.50 am from Uttam Nagar’s Mohan Garden regarding two men being stabbed. A team reached the spot and rushed the injured to Mata Roop Rani Maggo Hospital.
Vijender Rana (40) was declared dead on arrival while Rajesh (45) is undergoing treatment. He was later referred to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and is said to be out of danger, the police said.
The accused — Ankit, his brother Paras and his tenant Dev Chopra — live in the same area.
“Based on the complaint by Vijender’s wife, Seema, a case has been registered under Indian Penal Code Section 302 [murder] and 307 [attempt to murder] against the accused at Uttam Nagar police station,” said Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka).
Three police teams have been formed to nab the accused, the officer added.
During investigation, it was found that Vijendra and Rajesh own and drive separate cargo vans.
On the small hours of Saturday, when Vijendra was about to reach home after delivering a shipment, his van accidentally touched a dog. The pet’s owner got infuriated over the incident and started thrashing the victim, the police said.
The attackers — Ankit and Paras — were at that time out for a stroll when their pet dog was hit by the cargo van. The accused are siblings, Mr. Alphonse added.
“Vijendra informed called his elder brother Rajesh for help. The accused then started stabbing Rajesh. When Vijendra tried to save his brother, he was stabbed multiple times in stomach and chest. The attackers then fled the spot,” the officer added.
Seema said after her husband called Rajesh for help, they all rushed to the location but were unaware of the situation.
“They stabbed my husband and my brother-in-law in middle of the road and in front of children but no one intervened. My son called the police but by then, the killers managed to run away,” she added.
