North Queensland MP queries resources over stabbing deaths
A north Queensland MP believes more emergency services resourcing could have prevented two men dying in a bizarre stabbing incident on Monday.
Tom Davy, 27, and Corey Christensen, 37, both died in pools of their own blood outside a home in the small seaside town of Alva, south of Townsville, on Monday after following an injured woman to the property.
A 19-year-old man at the home has confronted the two men shortly afterwards and as a result both received critical injuries.
LNP member for Burdekin Dale Last says a 40-minute wait between a triple-zero call being made and police arriving at the scene had proven crucial.
"If they had got there sooner they could have prevented this incident from occurring," Mr Last, a former police officer, told the ABC.
"Do we have a resourcing issue in north Queensland and in particular the Burdekin?"
Police released the 19-year-old man without charge a day after the incident and have also interviewed the 29-year-old woman.
Whether the matter is referred to the coroner or if criminal charges are laid is yet to be determined.
