Victory in all office-bearer posts being seen as revival of organisation’s dominance on campus

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) swept the student union elections at the University of Hyderabad, winning all the posts of office-bearers.

Arti Nagpal won the president’s post, bagging 1,663 votes against her nearest rival, Erram Naveen who polled 1,329 votes. Amit Kuma polled 1,505 votes to win as vice president against Paritosh who got 1,258 votes.

Dheeraj with 1,573 votes won as the general secretary against Abhishek Kumar, who polled 1,446 votes. Praveen Kumar won as joint secretary with 1,417 votes against Anupama Krishnan who secured 1,378 votes.

Arvind (1,475 votes) won as cultural secretary while Nikhil (1,467 votes) emerged victorious as sports secretary.

The victory across posts is being seen as the revival of the dominance of the ABVP that won with such massive mandate after eight years. “This is the victory of nationalists over the groups that promote casteism and extremism on the campus in the name of religion and ideology,” said L. Ayyappa, Telangana secretary, ABVP.

The alliance of groups like SFI, ASA and OBC students has been successful over the last few years while ABVP contested without any alliance.

This time, the contest was three-cornered with SFI and United Democratic Alliance contesting separately.
