VADODARA: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has sought a plot of land from the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) to start another office in the city. The RTO plans to have the facility in the western parts of the city.

The RTO was earlier located at Warasiya, but due to space and infrastructure constraints a new office was started at Darjipura on the city’s outskirts. While the Darjipura office is convenient to residents of eastern parts of the city and to rural areas located to the east, it is an inconvenience to those staying in other parts as they have to travel long distances.

The state government had approved an additional RTO office in the city in wake of representations in this regard over the years. Even former mayor Bharat Dangar had met chief minster Vijay Rupani when Rupani was the state transport minister and raised the issue.

Dangar said that he had visited the RTO office at Darjipura after receiving complaints from citizens. “I had requested for a new office in the city for the convenience of the people,” he said.

A letter written by the RTO to the VMC commissioner in July states that the department had requested the state government for land, but no suitable government land was available. In wake of the situation, the department has now approached the VMC for a plot of land in the western part.

The RTO has requested for 20,000 sq m land in areas like Racecourse, Akota, Vasna, Bhaili, Atladara and Kalali.

Dangar too wrote a letter to the commissioner recently seeking that the land must be provided at the earliest so that the inconvenience caused to citizens due to the existing office’s distant location comes to an end.
