Tablespoons provided to the inmates of the central prison are now being used as weapons. In a second such incident in a week, an undertrial from Mumbai, Mohammed Sameer, attacked another prisoner, Azamulla Khan, with a spoon.
According to the police, Sameer was lodged in a barrack next to the one assigned to the victim. He walked up to his barrack and began talking to him before he suddenly attacked him with the spoon on Wednesday. Khan raised an alarm following which other inmates in the barrack rushed to his help, restrained Sameer, and handed him over to the guards.
The victim sustained severe injuries on his face and was admitted to the hospital in the prison. Inquiries revealed that the two men had an argument the previous day, said the police.
Based on a complaint filed by M. Somashekhar, Chief Superintendent, the Parappana Agrahara police have booked Sameer under Section 324 (causing hurt with dangerous weapon or means) of the Indian Penal Code.
Recently, an undertrial had attacked an inmate in the hospital ward with a tablespoon while the two men were having breakfast.
