A cycling track built on Durgam Cheruvu lakebed was thrown open to public on Friday. “We want to create a culture of cycling, not just in these closed spaces, so we plan to lay cycling tracks beside main roads so that people can use it for commuting,” said Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary, promising to turn Hyderabad into a cycle-friendly city. The 2.2 km cycling track is partially complete with an additional 2-km stretch to be added later to turn it into a loop.
Speaking at the inaugural event, Hari Chandana, Zonal Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commission, said: “This is for the benefit of local residents and is one of the ways to make citizens lead a healthy life.”
The cycles can be hired for ₹50 for one-time use, while monthly passes are available for ₹800, and annual passes for ₹7,000. Passes for children under 12 are lower. Visitors have to pay a fee of ₹10 for walking in the park while monthly passes are available for ₹200.
For still photography, the charges are ₹250 per day, while film crews can use the location after paying ₹25,000.
