Mumbai: 27-year-old man held for killing waiter in Prabhadevi


Mumbai: The NM Joshi Marg police have arrested a 27-year-old man on Thursday night after he stabbed a waiter at Red Rose country liquor bar near Prabhadevi station road. The accused, a customer, had an argument with the waiter over the payment of the bill. In a fit of rage, the accused stabbed the waiter with an ice pick.

The incident occurred at 11 am on Thursday. The accused, Shailesh Gupta (27), was inebriated at the time of the incident. The waiter, Ganesh Laxman Janavlekar (49), asked him to pay the bill. Gupta started arguing with Janavlekar over payment of the bill and refused to pay the money.

Within minutes, the argument heated up and got out of control, with several other waiters trying to calm down Gupta. However, the accused picked up an ice pick and stabbed Janavlekar in the stomach. After stabbing, Gupta managed to flee the scene, while Janavlekar was rushed to the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital at Parel by his colleagues. Janavlekar was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. According to Pandit Thorat, senior police inspector said, “Gupta is a regular customer at the bar. He has been arrested on Thursday.”
