HYDERABAD: A Nigerian, who was arrested twice in drug peddling cases since March 2017, fell to his death from the terrace of a four-storeyed apartment at Mehdipatnam while trying to escape from police dragnet.
Police rushed
Patrick Williams Uzonna, 28, to
Osmania General Hospital for treatment where he succumbed while undergoing treatment in the wee hours of Friday. “Patrick, who was trying to escape from the building by climbing down holding the sewer pipeline, crash landed on the ground as the sewer pipe broke,” Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar said.
On a tip-off, West Zone cops along with a Task Force team raided Sai Priya Apartments in Ayodhya Nagar, Mehdipatnam, and arrested three Nigerians — Okarin Joshua Christian, 22, Owakwe Tochukku, 23, and Abdul Basit, 21 — and seized 14 gm of
cocaine and seven passports. The accused are studying in Warangal and Hyderabad.
As police suspected that there could be some more drug peddlers in the apartment, they again searched. Patrick, who was on the terrace, was alarmed and made a fatal jump.
Anjani Kumar told mediamen that Patrick had a criminal record. In March last year, Patrick, who was pursuing BCom in a private college at Yousufguda, was arrested near a pub on Road No 45,
Jubilee Hills, and 15 gm of ccaine was recovered. He was arrested again in December along with two others on Road No 10,
Banjara Hills, and caught in possession of 250 gm of cocaine and 25 gm of heroin.
Police booked a suspicious death case under section 174 of CrPC in relation to Patrick’s death and the three Nigerian students under NDPS Act. “We have informed the Nigerian embassy on the death of Patrick and body will be handed over to a designated person,” west zone DCP AR Srinivas said.
