Police treating death of woman found during house fire call-out as suspicious

Homicide detectives are treating the death of a Ballarat mother as suspicious, after her body was found during a house fire call-out on Friday morning.

Firefighters and police were initially called to a house on Kenworthy Place in Mt Pleasant around 8am to investigate smoke.

Once a small fire was extinguished, police discovered the body of Dannyll Goodsell inside.

Friends and family have began paying tribute online to the mother of two who is originally from NSW.

"We need to bring her back home to NSW so she may now have that peace she desired and to be with her two children," a fundraising page says.

A police spokesman on Saturday said it was not believed that the victim died due to the fire.

A neighbour said there was a young woman who lived at the property who had frequent visitors.

The neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said he could hear a lot of commotion from the house on Friday.

He said there was a lot of noise that morning, which he added was not unusual for the house in question.

“There is always a lot of yelling and screaming from that house,” the neighbour said.

“The past few nights, people have been coming and harassing the woman living there.”

“I just heard screaming that there was blood everywhere,” he said.

“Then I could hear someone running away from the place.”

A second neighbour, who lives a few doors down from the property where the body was found, confirmed that incidents at the house were not uncommon.

“It’s a really quiet street,” she said. “And we know most of our neighbours, but I’ve never talked to them.”

“There’s always something going on over there, people screaming at each other, smashed windows.”

Homicide and forensic squads spent hours combing the scene on Friday, and officers were still at work in Kenworthy Street at nightfall.

It is unclear if the death is related to a high speed car chase on the Western Freeway on Friday.

The woman is yet to be formally identified, and police on Saturday could not reveal the woman’s exact cause of death.

A report will now be prepared for the Coroner.
