PUNE: A youth was arrested on Thursday for allegedly abusing a woman traffic constable when the latter stopped a biker, the suspect’s friend, for riding on the wrong side of the road near Vadgaon bridge on Thursday night.

Sinhagad Road police have identified the suspect as Sohail Shaukat Shaikh of Vadgaon Budruk. “On Thursday night, the complainant and her colleagues were taking action against traffic offenders near the Vadgaon bridge. This is when the constable noticed a motorcycle coming from the wrong side of the road and stopped the rider, while telling him to pay the fine,” an officer from the Sinhagad Road police said.
The suspect Shaikh who was riding pillion started abusing the constable, while claiming that his father was a police officer. “The suspect snatched the point of sale (POS) machine from the constable and threw it on the ground,” the officer said, adding that the youth has been arrested. “Further probe is on,” he said.
In another incident, the Marketyard police on Thursday night arrested Rohit Banajgole (22) of Dhankawdi for allegedly abusing a beat marshal of the police station. The incident occurred when the suspect was quarreling with another person in the Marketyard area.
