EC announces Assembly polls for 5 States, counting on Dec 11

New Delhi, The Election Commission on Saturday announced the schedule for Assembly polls in five states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram with elections in Chhattisgarh to be held in two phases on November 12 and November 20 single phase elections will be held in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Telangana.

Addressing a press conference here, Chief Election COmmissioner O P Rawat said Assembly polls for Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh will be held on November 28 while election to Telangana and Rajasthan Assemblies will be on December 7.

The CEC said polls will be held in two phases for the 90 member Chhattisgarh Assembly – while the first Phase of Chhattisgarh is for 18 Assembly constituencies on November 12 while phase two election to the state will be in 72 constituencies on November 20.

For the first phase of the Chhattisgarh poll, notification will be issued on October 16 and last date of nomination will be October 23. Scrutiny of nominations will be on October 24 while Last date of withdrawal of nominations will be on October 26.

For the Phase two of Chhattisgarh polls for 72 Assembly constituencies, notification will be issued on October 26 and Last date of nomination is on November 2 . Scrutiny of nominations will be on November 3. Last date of withdrawal of nominations is November 5.

The CEC said there will be single phase polls in Madhya Pradesh–230 Assembly seats and Mizoram–40 Assembly seats on November 28. For both the states, notification for the polls will be issued on November 2 and Last date of nomination is on November 9. Scrutiny of nominations will be on November 12 . Last date of withdrawal of nominations is November 14.

There will be single phase polls in Rajasthan–200 Assembly seats and Telengana–119 Assembly seats on December 7. For both the states, notification for the polls will be issued on November 12 and Last date of nomination is on November 19 . Scrutiny of nominations will be on November 20 . Last date of withdrawal of nominations is November 22.

He said Counting of votes for all the five states will be held on December 11.The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into force in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram with immediate effect, Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat said while announcing the poll schedule.

He said, the MCC was already in force in Telangana due to early premature dissolution of the assembly.
