HOWRAH: The 12-year-old girl, who was on Wednesday allegedly raped by the very “uncles” who drove her to school and back every day, has been so traumatized that she has refused to even eat, drink or step out of her room.
“All day long, she remains crouched in a corner, covering herself in a bedsheet. She has not eaten or drank anything. She is jolted out of her sleep because of nightmares. I wonder if she can ever come back to normal life,” said the mother of the Class-VI student at a reputable Bengali-medium school in
Howrah. While returning from school, after all the kids had been dropped off home while , the girl was alone in the pooled car on Wednesday, when the driver, Sagar Mondal (33), and helper Debjit Raha (27) parked the vehicle in a blind lane near Haskhali bridge. They allegedly took turns to sexually assault her till she managed to free herself and return home. Based on the survivor’s mother’s complaint, Mondal and Raha have been arrested.
The survivor underwent a medical test on Wednesday night and recorded her statement on Thursday. “A psychiatrist advised us to keep her within the closed family circle and to ensure no one reminds her of the torment,” the mother said.
When the police visited on Friday to record her statements again, the family told them about the doctor’s advice and they stayed away. “We told her no harm will come to her as her tormentors have been arrested,” said an officer of the AJC Bose Botanic Garden police station.
The officer said they took permission from the magistrate on Friday to take the arrested to the spot to reconstruct the crime that was videographed. “Mondal is a resident of Haskhali bridge area where the crime was committed, while Raha lives near Mandirtala. Raha had taken the survivor to an empty house a few days ago on the pretext of giving her imported chocolates,” said the officer.
