The International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) has officially demanded a clarification from China on the disappearance of Chinese Interpol president Meng Hongwei.
Euronews quoted the statement by Interpol as saying, "INTERPOL has requested through official law enforcement channels clarification from China's authorities on the status of INTERPOL President Meng Hongwei. INTERPOL's General Secretariat looks forward to an official response from China's authorities to address concerns over the President's well-being."
The Interpol chief has been missing since travelling to China in late September. The spouse of the Interpol president informed the police about his disappearance.
The French authorities have launched an investigation into the disappearance Meng. Though, it has not been established yet if the Interpol chief was in China when he disappeared, a senior French law enforcement official confirmed that he was not in France.
Meng was elected as the Interpol Chief in November 2016, becoming the first Chinese official to be the Interpol president. Interpol headquarters are located in France's Lyon.
