JNU students' union calls for strike against administration

JNUSU protests JNUSU protests against online entrance exam at JNU
The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) called a university strike on Friday to protest against the administration for not inviting them to the academic council meeting, which was set to discuss the proposal of online entrance examinations.
The students' union claims that opting for the online entrance examination would destroy the University and it would not be allowed by the students' union. "Vice-chancellor had called for the academic council meeting, but he did not even bother to invite the office bearer, making it clear that the administration plans to push regressive anti-student policies on us," said the recently appointed president of student's union, N Sai Balaji.
The student union also inculpated that the Vice-Chancellor has withheld the last year's admission data carrying the details of reservations, fearing the exposure of its non-compliance with reservation. "the Vice-Chancellor is not providing the full details of this year's admission data, fearing the exposure of its non-compliance with reservation," added Balaji.
Later, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA) also attacked the JNU administration of trying to dictate teachers. JNUTA claimed that the university administration has been trying to bring teachers of the university under the Civil Service Conduct Rule, which would restrict them from criticising the government policies and would prohibit them from participating in political activities like joining any political party or providing views on political policies in public domain.
"The university administration has been trying to impose Civil Service Conduct Rule, which would restrict us from speaking about our opinion in public, which is completely unaccepted," said Surajit Mazumdar, member of executive council of JNU.
The Response
The university administration reacted to the allegation of JNUSU, in a press note saying that the JNUSU office-bearer are not members of the academic council and are only special invitees to the academic council.
