Toyota Recalls Over 800,000 Prius And Prius V For Stalling Issues

Toyota is conducting a massive recall campaign that involves approximately 807,000 units of the Prius and Prius V models across the USA.

According to the official announcement, the 2010-2014 Prius and 2012-2014 Prius V could lose power and stall under certain conditions.

If this happens, power steering and braking remain operational, says Toyota, but if the vehicle stalls at high speeds, it can increase the risk of a accident.

“The involved vehicles were designed to enter a fail safe driving mode, in response to certain hybrid system faults”, explained the automaker. “Toyota has found that, in rare situations, the vehicle may not enter a fail safe driving mode as intended.”

The fix will be relatively easy, with technicians updating the software of the affected cars. Owners will be notified once the update is available, and all work will be performed free of charge.

Meanwhile, Toyota is advising owners to contact their Customer Support at 1-800-331-4331 if they have further question on the matter, and to check their car’s VIN on the NHTSA website and see if it is involved in this safety campaign.

The Prius and Prius V were previously called back in February 2014 and July 2015 in two other recall campaigns. However, Toyota says they did not anticipate this fault back then.
