The organisers of the 16th edition of the Chennai International Film Festival 2018, which will be held from December 13-20, have invited entries for the Tamil feature film competition. The last date for submitting applications is November 10.

The Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation said that films that have been censored between October 16, 2017 and October 15, 2018 are eligible to compete. Three best films — Best Tamil feature film, second best Tamil feature film and special jury award — will be handpicked by a three-member jury. Apart from these awards, an Amitabh Bachchan Youth Icon award will also be given.

Last year, Suresh Sangaiah’s Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu, Pushkar-Gayathri’s smash hit Vikram Vedha and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Maanagaram bagged the best film, runner up and special jury award respectively. Actor Vijay Sethupathi won the Youth Icon award.

The eight-day-long festival will feature 100 films sourced from 45 countries around the world and it will be screened in seven theatre complexes in Chennai — Kalaivanar Arangam, Casino Theatre, Devi Complex, Anna Theatre, Sathyam Complex, Russian Centre for Science and Culture and Tagore Film Centre (NFDC). “The theatres are picked on the basis of accessibility. So film buffs watching a film in Casino theatre in Blackers Road (Off Mount Road) can just walk across to Devi complex, Kalaivanar Arangam and Anna theatre,” said E. Thangaraj, general secretary, ICAF.

The passes for the film festival can be collected from the office in Casino Theatre.
