PIMPRI: Only around 48 per cent of the total generated 900 metric tonnes of garbage in the city is segregated and processed.

To be a Smart City, Pimpri Chinchwad needs to ensure that 100 per cent of the generated garbage is segregated and processed in all its wards.

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is implementing a cleanliness drive under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The garbage collected at door steps in half of the city is taken to the Moshi garbage deport by the BVG Kshitij Waste Management Services. The remaining is lifted by workers employed by private contractors.

As per the State government’s solid waste management rules, those individuals, housing societies and other bodies producing more than 100 kg daily are expected to process the garbage themselves. However, only a few housing societies are doing this. These include Roseland Residency in Pimple Saudagar, Gokhale Vrindavan in Chinchwadgaon and Swarganga in Vallabhnagar.
