2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Offers Fresh Design And Engaging Handling

Only someone with a sight problem would not see that the all-new Toyota Corolla Hatchback is a revelation in the model’s long history, at least when it comes to design.

The new Corolla Hatchback looks nothing like a Corolla – and that’s perhaps one of the biggest compliments we can give it.

Underneath its sporty bodywork, the new Corolla is based on the latest TNGA underpinnings, featuring -among other things- a sportier setup and a sophisticated multilink rear suspension, which bodes well for handling.

The interior also represents a step-up in quality and in design, featuring softer materials and brighter color combos, along with a wide range of technology features. The eight-inch infotainment system is standard across the range and comes with Apple CarPlay, but not Android Auto, at least not yet.

US-spec versions of the Corolla Hatchback are powered by a new, naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder producing 168hp and 151lb-ft of peak torque. Customers will be able to choose between the standard six-speed manual transmission that also comes with a rev-matching feature and the new ‘Dynamic Shift’ CVT option. Unlike previous iterations of the CVT, Toyota’s latest version features a physical first launch gear for more immediate responses under acceleration.

The new Corolla is also the company’s first model in North America to feature the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suit of driver assistance systems. So, on paper, Toyota’s new compact hatch has everything it needs to draw customers to Toyota’s showrooms.
