FALL RIVER — State Rep. Carole Fiola earmarked, advocated for, and received $90,000 in the fiscal 2019 state budget for the Fall River Police Department traffic equipment upgrades in the City of Fall River. The upgrade work has already begun.

The traffic signal improvements will include upgraded control cabinets, controllers, and emergency vehicle pre-emption sensors at the following intersections: Bedford Street at Troy, Rock, and North Main Streets. A vehicle detection camera will also be installed. This camera will not only control the intersection timing but it will also allow the capabilities to have live video footage and also live updates if the intersection malfunctions.

As part of the project, overhead signals, controllers and signal brackets at various intersections and schools will be updated.

All the intersections and schools included in this project are:

● Bedford Street and Troy/High Street

● Bedford and Rock Street

● Bedford and N. Main Street

● Durfee and Central Street

● Fonseca School

● Morton Middle School
