The discharge of water from the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur for farm activities in the Cauvery basin was reduced on Thursday, thanks to the widespread rainfall in the central districts.
The release of water from the dam for delta districts which stood at 12,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second) in the morning was reduced to 5,000 cusecs at 9 a.m. The release was further brought down to 3,000 cusecs at 6 p.m., according to Public Works Department (PWD) sources. Another about 600 cusecs of water was released from the dam into its east and west canals for farm operations in three western districts.
Meanwhile, the realisation of water in River Cauvery at Mettur further dropped on Thursday. The inflow which stood at 6,456 cusecs on Wednesday dropped to 4,040 cusecs on Thursday evening. The water level in the dam stood at 101.77 ft on Thursday against its full level of 120 ft.
