PUNE: The newly sanctioned Industrial Training Institute (ITI) within the jurisdiction of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) was inaugurated on Thursday by Dr Subhash Bhamre, Minister of State for Defence.

During the inauguration, Bhamre said, “To impart skills to the young generation of the country, the government has come up with an independent skill education mantralaya.”

Deepa Bajwa, the new Director-General, Defence Estates, Ministry of Defence; Dilip Kamble, State Minister; LK Pegu, Principal Director, Defence Estate, Southern Command; Maj Gen Prithi Singh, President of PCB; DN Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of PCB; Priyanka Shrigiri, Vice-President of PCB and other ward members were present.

Yadav said, “There is no institute like ITI in the cantonment. Students have to travel out of Pune if they don’t get admission in the Aundh ITI. Hence, an independent ITI catering to the needs of students in the cantonment and nearby areas is an important initiative by the PCB. There are many industries in the Mundhwa Industrial Area within the PCB limits, which need skilled workers. Baba Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge has assured employment to the students of ITI,”

Yadav added, “The affiliation certificate was issued by Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship on September 5, 2018, in New Delhi.”

The first session of 2018-2020 will start from October 5, 2018. This is an opportunity for the students of Std X and Std XII, who cannot afford higher education due to various personal and financial reasons.

A group of schoolchildren staged a skit on national unity on the occasion.
