A post office has closed suddenly - hitting services in a Conwy village.

Services have been suspended at the branch on Abergele Road in Old Colwyn.

The closure has impacted on pensioners and businesses with post office bosses urged to get the branch back up and running as soon as possible.

A Post Office spokeswoman said: " We sincerely apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Old Colwyn Post Office.

“We understand and appreciate how much communities rely on our services.

"We would like to reassure customers that the decision to suspend services at any of our branches is never taken lightly.

"We take very seriously any decision to temporarily close a branch, and will only do so when it is warranted.

"We are working hard to restore services for the community as quickly as possible.”

Councillor Brian Cossey, who represents Colwyn on Conwy council, said: "It is causing problems because there are a lot of people who rely on it, from pensioners to businesses.

"Businesses use it for change and other services and a lot of people get their pension there, it is not easy for everyone to hop in a car to go to another post office.

"There are no banks in the village and when they closed they said it was okay as people can use the Post Office so when this is closed as well it's a problem.

"We are keeping in touch with the Post Office service and hope to see the branch back open as soon as possible."
