Over ₹5 crore cash, 4.6 kg of gold ornaments, property documents found

In a major haul, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) raided premises linked to two officials in Bengaluru – T.R. Swamy, Chief Development Officer, Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) and N.G. Gowdaiah, Engineer Officer–5, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) – and recovered ₹4.52 crore and ₹75 lakh cash, respectively from their residences.

The raids witnessed high drama as T.R. Swamy reportedly refused to open the door of his flat on the 14th floor of a high-rise apartment complex in Malleswaram. “Our sleuths were made to wait for over half-an-hour. Sensing trouble, they had positioned themselves on the ground floor facing the window of his flat. Officials recovered bags someone threw out of the flat. The bags had wads of cash and some documents,” said M. Chandra Sekhar, IGP, ACB.

The raids at T.R. Swamy's residence and premises linked to him yielded ₹4.52 crore in cash, 1.6 kilos of gold ornaments, three high-end cars, documents of 8 houses, 10 sites and several parcels of agricultural land totalling 10 acres, all registered in his relatives’ names.

The ACB also raided the residence of BDA official N.G. Gowdaiah, who was not at home when officials knocked on his door. He was out on his morning walk, but returned soon after and co-operated with the sleuths, sources said.

The raid on his residence yielded ₹75 lakh in cash, ₹30 lakh worth cash deposits in various banks, three kilos of gold, 10 kilos of silver articles, three high-end cars and three two-wheelers. Sleuths recovered documents related to two houses, 14 flats and eight sites. The ACB also raided his father-in-law's house where they recovered 4.5 kilos of gold ornaments.

A statement from the ACB said that raids were conducted after Disproportionate Assets (DA) cases were registered against the two officials. In all, a total of eight premises were raided on Friday, according to the statement. The details of assets recovered from the premises linked to the two officials was not a completely exhaustive list, as the raids and their interrogation was still under way.
