A Kashmiri student was injured in a clash between two groups of students at Sharda University on Thursday.
The Kashmiri student, Ahtisham, was allegedly mistaken to be an Afghan national and thrashed by local students who barged into an examination hall and dragged some Afghan students out and attacked them. The attackers demanded that the Afghan students be sent back to their country, an eyewitness said.
Tension between the local and Afghan students has been brewing on campus since Monday following an argument between the two groups. The university subsequently suspended three Afghan students after they were captured in a video beating up an Indian student. Show-cause notices were issued against some Indian students who later confronted a group of Afghan students. Following the attack on Thursday, the ongoing exams have been postponed and the university has been closed till the situation normalises.
